Oogie Boogie Bash- A Halloween Party for All Ages

shahla · September 26, 2019 · 4 Comments

This coverage of the Oogie Boogie Bash is in partnership with Disney. All opinions expressed are my own.

It is no secret that Halloween is one of our favorite times of the year. Every year we celebrate my son’s birthday by going to Disneyland to see the Halloween decorations and attend the Oogie Boogie Bash (in the previous years it was called Mickey’s Trick or Treat Party). This year marked the first celebration of the Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure. One of my favorite things about this special event is that there is something that can appeal to everyone regardless of age. The Bash is not scary for little kids and yet it also has so many attractions that will appeal to older children too.

In this post I am sharing my favorites and must-see’s for the Oogie Boogie Bash Halloween Party. These special attractions are only available to people with tickets to the event. I have also included tips to help you plan your trip.

Costumes

One of my favorite parts of attending the Oogie Boogie Bash is that adults get to join in on the costume fun! We love coming up with family-themed costumes to wear to the event. The last two years we dressed up as Disney Villains. Before that, we dressed in Star Wars and Nightmare Before Christmas themes (also for two years each, but we switched it up each time!).

Not only do we love dressing up in our costumes, it is equally exciting to see what other people are wearing. There are so many creative costumes that will knock your socks off!

Travel Tip: There are specific rules for both adult and kid costumes. Check the dress code here to make sure your costumes are within guidelines.

DescenDANCE Party

Kids and tweens will be over the moon at the DescenDANCE Party. Let’s be honest, this mom was singing along to the music and loving the dance moves too! This party is an interactive show where the VK (Villain Kids) dancers are teaching the crowd dance moves to all of the popular songs from Disney’s Descendants. It is high-energy the entire time with special messages from Mal and Evie…your kids and tweens will LOVE it! Check it out in the Hollywood Land Backlot area.

Mickey’s Trick & Treat

During the Oogie Boogie Bash, you can take in the Mickey’s Trick & Treat show which is perfect for families with younger kids. The show is interactive with Mickey, Minnie and their friends! It is filled with singing, dancing, bubbles, confetti and more! My kids loved seeing and singing along with all their Disney buddies on stage.

Villain’s Grove

There are no words to describe the experience of walking through Villain’s Grove. You have to see the magical sights and hear the sounds for yourself. During the Oogie Boogie Bash, the forest of the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail has been transformed into a magical grove. There are various villainous themes that have enchanted the trail with fog, lights, projections and sounds. My favorite themes were The Queen of Heart’s Garden and The Queen’s Lightening Forest. I literally stood in front of both experiences in awe of my surroundings.

Villain’s Grove attracts all ages. Even your hard-to-impress teenagers will be snapping photos and videos of this hauntingly gorgeous (but not-too-scary) experience.

Travel Tip: When we attended the Oogie Boogie Bash, the line for the Grove was long but it moved very quickly. Don’t let what looks like a long line deter you from this one-of-a-kind experience.

Immersive Treat Trails

Time for me to come clean. In past years, I tried to skip over the treat trails. Mostly because I didn’t want my kids to have all the sugar (little did I know that there are healthy and even allergy-friendly options available at every trail!). This year, we wanted to catch every single trail because each was in theme with a specific villain. And at all the trails, trick-or-treaters are in for a fun surprise to see the Villains lurking nearby. This made trick-or-treating fun for people of all ages!

Travel Tip: As you are making your way to the treat trails make sure to keep an eye out for other rarely-seen villains for a unique photo opportunity!

Parade and World of Color

Two must-sees are Villainous! and the Frightfully Fun Parade. Both are only available to see during the Oogie Boogie Bash. Villainous! is a special World of Color show hosted by Oogie Boogie. It is not scary for the little ones and actually has a very endearing message of being true to yourself.

The Frightfully Fun Parade is one of my favorite parades as all the Disney Villains come together to put on a spectacular show. The festivities start off with a procession by the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow, signaling that the parade will begin soon. During the parade itself, catch Mickey and Minnie in costume and all the Villains as they dance/interact with the crowd (please head to see how Ursula and I connected on my Instagram story highlights…seriously my night was made!! Haha!!). The Haunted Mansion float is one of my favorites, the perfect backdrop for the Hitchhiking Ghosts!

Travel tip: If you want to take advantage of a reserved viewing area for The Frightfully Fun parade, check out the Oogie Boogie dining package at  Wine Country Trattoria. Children ages 3-9 will be excited to receive an Oogie Boogie popcorn bucket, included with their dining package!

Rides

Even non-Halloween-enthusiasts would appreciate the Oogie Boogie Bash. Since there is so much to do/see AND this is a limited ticket event, you can walk onto so many rides. My kids love Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree (which is transformed into Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree during Halloween) and they were able to ride it three times in a row during the Oogie Boogie Bash!

Even the rides which usually have super long lines, such as Radiator Springs and Toy Story Midway Mania, had shorter wait times.

Jafar fell asleep before the night was over. Tip: Have a stroller for younger kids if you think he/she will fall asleep.

If you do not already have tickets, unfortunately the Oogie Boogie Bash is sold out for this year. Mark your calendars to be on the lookout for next year’s event.

With love,

Shahla

Thank you for transcending, reading about an experience, to actually feeling and living it. That’s what a writer of truth, someone who speaks from the heart, does. I love this post, and your blog in general.
