We have been making lots of DIY Minnie ears for my daughter lately, they are fun and easy to craft! So when my son was feeling left out and asked for his own inspired ears, I couldn’t say no! I asked him what kind of ears he wanted and he responded, “I am Groot” (that means he wanted Guardians of the Galaxy-inspired ears).
I asked him which character, to which he replied, “I am Groot” (in Groot-speak that means…duh, he wants Groot ears).
First, I looked online for some inspiration and found this adorable pair by Jamonkey. Then, we set off to the craft store to find some supplies. We went to Michael’s craft store and found these great nests and mini grapevine wreaths from their floral department. I also purchased some green burlap ribbon and ivy to add to the ears.
I used a burlap headband and glued the nests on with a glue gun. I then added more glue around the base of the nests to secure the “ears” on the headband. Lastly, I took leaves from the ivy and glued them to hide the glue.
Not surprising that after I made my son his Groot Mickey ears, my daughter wanted a pair too. So we used the grapevine wreaths to make a pair of Groot Minnie ears. I used the same method as above, using hot glue to fuse the mini wreath onto a headband. And we used the green burlap to make the Minnie bows with twist-ties. I glued leaves to the middle of the bow to hide the silver twist-ties and it made for an adorable decoration too!
They turned out so well and were very easy to make! They both insisted on wearing them on Earth Day because you can’t get more earthy than Groot ears!
With love,
Shahla
