Last October, I shared our simple outdoor movie night set up. This summer, I wanted to take it to the next level and celebrate school being out with a cozy setup for movies under the stars. This post has been sponsored by Target. I found everything I needed to pull off this family-friendly evening without spending a fortune at Target. Every year we kick summer off with a Target-run to stock up on the essentials for fun: bubble wands, sidewalk chalk, water soakers, snacks and more. I knew I would find everything I needed for an elevated movie night.
Set up and décor for our outdoor movie night
When I came across this black and white inflatable pool- I knew I found the perfect foundation for our cozy movie night. Instead of filling the pool up with water, I opted for cushions and throw pillows. I found these dotted lounge pillows and knew they would be perfect to create a comfy lounge area. Plus, I love that they can be used beyond our movie nights and the kids can use them to relax on the hardwood floor to color or read. When it came to throw pillows; I stayed with the black and white theme and purchased different sizes and textures. Many of the rooms in our house are decorated with black and white colors, so I liked that I could transition the pillows indoors and get more use out of them. I love these fringed jacquard oversized pillows (they are usually found on our bed) and this extra-long lumbar pillow. This textured tassel pillow will transition to our family room when we aren’t having a movie night under the stars. I also loved the size of this pillow.
Once the sun sets our temperatures dip quickly, so I used this adorable basket and filled it with my favorite blankets. I especially love this one because it has a carrying handle and is perfect to keep in your car for sports, impromptu picnics or beach trips. To make it look even more inviting and designate an entry point, I used a floor pillow (this one is similar) and this small entry rug (it’s reversible!).
The ambiance was set with beautiful rattan wrapped lanterns and a citronella candle to keep the bugs away.
Snacks
Since we were kicking off summer, the kids chose tropical faire for our movies under the stars. We love the Good & Gather line of snacks at Target! And there are so many snacks and treats with a tropical twist. For the main snack, I made a tropical popcorn using Good & Gather Sea Salt popcorn, dried mangoes, freeze-dried mangoes and white baking chips. It is so easy to make; all you have to do is chop up the two different kinds of mangoes and add them to the popcorn in a large bowl. Melt the white chips and drizzle on top. We have made this same popcorn and added dried pineapples and coconut chips. You can really personalize it and make it your own.
To serve the popcorn, I used white paper lunch bags and placed them on this acrylic tray. Also included on the tray: Good & Gather Strawberry Mango twisted fruit ropes and this spicy Tex Mex Trail Mix (it’s SO good!). We paired this up with Good & Gather Raspberry Hibiscus Sparkling water and filled this seagrass wrapped pitcher with ice, sparkling water and raspberries.
This made for the perfect summer set up, perfect for family movie night or date night. If you are looking for a projector- Target sells this one or this mini/portable version with WiFi and screen mirroring capabilities. Check out this screen and projector combo! We will definitely be watching movies under the stars during the warmer months.
