Last week we were invited to check out the new Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim, CA. My kids were so excited that they revisited all of the Marvel movies in timeline order before our trip. Once they felt like they were up to speed on the MCU stories, they decided they wanted to dress the part…enter Black Widow and Captain America! It was an experience we will always remember! Here are some of our highlights we wanted to share:
Character Experiences
There are immersive character experiences throughout Avengers Campus. Don’t be alarmed if you see Spider-Man’s gravity-defying acrobatics above the WEB building. You can also catch him one-on-one outside the building and strike a Spidey pose together.
For those seeking a bit of mystery, look for Doctor Strange at the ruins of the Ancient Sanctum. Doctor Strange is looking for recruits to train and help bring the Ancient Sanctum back to life.
There is no shortage of girl power as you can find Okoye, the leader of Black Panther’s bodyguards, holding training sessions in the courtyard in front of Avengers Headquarters.
Speaking of girl power- Black Widow puts on an action-packed show as she takes on Taskmaster with the help of other Marvel Superheroes.
I have to say, I did not expect much in terms of character meet-and-greets since Disneyland recently reopened. However, I was blown away at how the characters connected with the young budding superheroes that came through the campus. I was especially emotional when Black Panther and the Wasp built up my daughter talking about how strong she is. As many of you moms and dads know, confidence can sometimes be fleeting during young adolescence. While I work hard to build up my kids’ confidence, there is something a bit more magical when it comes from the King of Wakanda. The conversations we had with Loki and Thor from afar were also hilarious. Thanks to Thor for the most royal photobomb to date!
The Attractions at Avengers Campus
WEB Slingers
A Spider Man Adventure is a fun 3D interactive experience without height restrictions (yay for the young recruits!). Peter Parker’s Spider-Bots get stuck in replication mode and threaten to take over the campus. It’s our job to help Peter (the hologram of Tom Holland is so realistic!) get things back under control before Tony Stark finds out.
Things to know:
- The levels get harder as you go along
- Aim for the glowing bots for more points
- You can purchase an interactive Spider-Bot to bring home- we were gifted one and my son loves his!
- Look for some Disney eggs when you get in the waiting room (hint: an old arcade game)
- This attraction is currently running a virtual queue. Check your Disneyland app for more information.
Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission: BREAKOUT!
Help Rocket rescue the Guardians of the Galaxy from the Collector’s Fortress. The music is as awesome as the soundtrack to the movies. Good luck hearing the music if you go with me as I scream the whole entire time as we go through a series of free-falls. Did you know there are six different sequences? I just found this out during our last trip.
Food
PYM Test Kitchen
PYM Test Kitchen is an experience you have to see to believe. Remember when Ant-Man and The Wasp used “PYM Particles” to grow and shrink various items? Well, they put these PYM particles to use experimenting with food. And the result will delight Marvel fans young and old! The quick-service restaurant is an attraction in itself with pretzels being shrunk overhead and watching the PYM food scientists hard at work in the open-style kitchen lab. Stop at the bar next door and try unique cocktails and craft beers.
Our favorites included:
- Impossible Spoonful – this plant-based oversized meatball and pasta dish was delicious! It is topped with dairy-free Parmesan and micro basil.
- ChocoSmash Candy Bar – This bite-sized candy bar was anything but bite-sized. It was perfect for our family of four to share. This had to be one of my favorite desserts in the campus because I totally have a weakness for chocolate!
- Not So Little Chicken Sandwich – this is not your average fried chicken sandwich! Love the pickled cabbage slaw and those crispy potato bites
- Quantum Pretzel – This pretzel is bigger than our faces and so soft and good! Big enough to share!
- Molecular Meltdown – This beer cocktail was made with a dark stout, vanilla ice cream and topped with miniature marshmallows
- Honey Buzz – Loved this refreshing combination of gin, lemon juice, honey and a honey straw
Shawarma Palace is another can’t miss stop during your Avengers Campus journey. It is a nod to Tony Stark’s favorite shawarma joint. I love all of the plant-based options Disneyland offers.
After you ride Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission: BREAKOUT! – reward yourself with a stop at Terrain Treats (I know I did!). Choose between the Cosmic Cream Orb (it’s a crispy cream puff with raspberry cheesecake mousse) or the Sweet Spiral Ration – a pineapple-flavored churro spiral. Or don’t choose- get both as reward for saving the Guardians of the Galaxy!
Are you planning a Disneyland trip this summer? Let me know if there is anything I can share to help you plan!
With love,
Shahla
