While shopping on the Shop Disney site, I came across some very cute “swap-your-bow” interchangeable Minnie ears. I was inspired to come up with my own DIY pair with Coco flair! The great thing about these ears is that they you can really do any theme. All it takes is some alligator clips and glue.
Have a Disney trip planned? You can take one set of ears and swap out the colors of the flowers depending on your mood (somedays I feel a bit like Cinderella and other days I channel Maleficent). It makes for easy packing and totally unique ears! First, you need to purchase plain Mickey ears. I have purchased two different kinds (the following links are affiliate links that I earn a small commission off of at no cost to you); smaller ones for kids and larger ones for adults. My daughter has worn both sizes and they both look good. I personally prefer the larger-sized ones, but the smaller ones are a deal (you get a pack of twelve for about five dollars more than one of the larger ears).
For this DIY, we used the smaller ears and attached oversized flowers to fit our Coco theme. I found these bright flowers that have alligator clips attached at the craft store. We also found some butterflies with clips that were a fun addition. It is really easy to improvise if you find flowers that you love, but don’t have clips attached. I purchased a bunch of alligator clips from Etsy when I was making “hair-pretties” (that is what my daughter called hair clips) a few years ago. You can hot glue the an alligator clip onto anything that you want to attach to the ears. Just remember you don’t want to make them too heavy.
Ever since my daughter watched Coco she has been intrigued by Día de Muertos and asking questions about her Mexican heritage (her paternal grandmother’s ancestors are from Mexico). Both kids are adamant that we celebrate Day of the Dead this year, and we are totally on board with it. My mother-in-law brought back a beautiful outfit from a trip a few months back that my daughter loves to wear.
With love,
