Coastal Halloween decor might be far from your typical Halloween decor. But last year, I set out to create Halloween decor that flowed within the style and decor of each space. So when I could not find anything that matched my dining room, which has a blue and white coastal flare, I knew I needed to come up with something. I set off to create a coastal Halloween theme. Coastal Halloween Ceramics
The coastal ceramic ghosts and pumpkins were easy to create. Here’s what you need:
- White ceramic figurine (like this ghostor this pumpkin or this one!)
- Mod Podge
- Printed Napkins
- Paint Brush
- Scissors
- Twine (optional)
I tried two different methods. Both methods require you to first remove the bottom layer of the napkin (this usually is just the white layer of a two-ply napkin). On the ceramic ghost I tried to Mod Podge the entire napkin right on. I added a thin layer of Mod Podge and placed the entire napkin on. This was a bit tricky as there were quite a few bubbles and bumps I needed to work out. Once I was happy with how smooth the ghost was I added another layer of Mod Podge after the first layer dried.
With the pumpkin, I cut out patterns of the floral napkin and used the same method I mentioned above. The only difference was that there were not many bubbles/bumps to smooth out. This made for a much cleaner look. Once I was done I tried to paint the stem gold and didn’t love the way it looked. I ended up using twine and wrapping the stem for a more polished effect.
Coastal Bats
To continue the coastal Halloween theme, I purchased this chinoiserie paper pack from Amazon. I used my Cricut to cut bats out in different sizes and used painter’s tape to adhere them onto the wall and mirror. If you do not have a Cricut you can use this post where I share a stencil to cut your own by hand.
This was an easy way to incorporate a few coastal Halloween DIYs into my dining room without overpowering the room/changing the decor. I love how it all turned out.
With love,
Shahla
