That pouty pucker of yours can really take a beating during the winter. Mine has definitely been chapped more times than once. I can’t wear any fun lip colors when my lips are cracked so I was on a mission to find the perfect tool for hydrating and conditioning.
While checking out ingredients of various products, I was shocked to see that many of these lip-savers have lanolin listed first and not much else. Then I realized, well, why not just start layering on lanolin? If it’s safe enough to use while breastfeeding, it must be safe on our lips…and talk about cost effective! It costs less than $10! I really like the Lansinoh brand and you can get it here.
Other than lanolin, here are a few things you can add to your arsenal to get your pout back to tip-top-shape.
- Lip exfoliant (I do this 3-4 times a week). I love the Jane Irredale lip scrub. It’s dual ended with a sugar scrub on one end and a rose lip color with gold flecks on the other. My lips look nourished and plump after each use. You can pick it up here. I also just started using E.L.F.’s lip exfoliant and I must say, I am impressed. A steal at $3, it does a wonderful job of sloughing away the dried skin. You can pick it up at your local Target.
- SPF (lots and lots of times everyday) your lips are delicate and sensitive to sun exposure and yet we tend to forget about protecting them (maybe you don’t, but I do). Try Colorescience Sunforgettable Lip Shine, it has an SPF 35 and does a great job of hydrating your lips too. It is water resistant for about 40 minutes, so don’t forget to reapply to protect your pout. It comes in a variety of colors, but I stick with clear. You can get it here.
- Lip balm (interchangeably with lanolin) I get bored easily so the addition of lip balm is just to keep things interesting. I really love the Rosebud Salve that comes in a tube. It isn’t to sticky but perfectly hydrating. I prefer the minty kind to change things up a bit.
Now if only I could figure out how to get my children to listen to the words that come through these lips, that would be the ultimate win.
With love,
Shahla
