There is no question that we love Disney around here. We try to take the kids to Disneyland for their birthdays in lieu of birthday parties. I actually wrote a post about celebrating birthdays at Disneyland not too long ago. You can find out all about how to make your birthday even more magical at Disneyland by clicking here. On this last special birthday trip for my daughter, she requested matching jackets for her and I.
While I was planning this request out, I took into consideration a few things; we usually go to Disneyland where the weather hardly ever gets too cold so I wanted a lightweight jacket. I also wanted the jacket to be meaningful for her and to include a special saying.
I settled on a denim jacket since it is perfect for layering for the Southern California weather and I knew she could get plenty of use up here in the Bay Area too. There are a lot of options when it comes to denim jackets and I wanted something that would wash well and be soft not stiff. The links on here are affiliate links which means I get a commission at no additional charge to you. These are my go-to denim jackets that my daughter and I have in different washes: for mom, for daughter. You can almost always find them on sale especially if you are patient and wait for a sale code. The ones I found were on clearance and had polka dots (perfect for Minnie and any Disney theme). Sadly, The Gap no longer has the polka dot version.
The perfect Disney saying for our jackets was, “Have courage and be kind.” Especially since it was the advice given to Cinderella from her mom. My own mom who has an Etsy shop (she makes adorable matching Disney-inspired shirts too), made me the iron-on vinyl letters to put on the back of the jackets. She measured them out and adjusted the font size since we obviously have different sized jackets.
I searched Etsy and found two of the cutest shops that sell Disney patches and it just so happens that they are brother and sister! How cool is that?! Margaritas Bag has the cutest Disney Patches AND so many of them glow in the dark (which is so fun when you go into a dark ride or durning the fireworks!). I love the whimsical nature of her patches. She is also so sweet and helpful. She included some adorable surprises in our order (like a donut mickey patch and so many cute stickers!). Her brother’s shop is Flynn’s Satchel and he has awesome patches too, we got the Beauty and the Beast rose and fireworks over the castle ones from there.
My son ended up wanting his own jacket too. We customized a denim shirt for him and added “Adventure is out there” (from the movie Up!) on his shirt and his own patches. Some of his patches are from the Disney store and others are from Flynn’s Satchel.
The jackets turned out so well. We were stopped and asked about them a lot, especially the patches. I hope my daughter treasures her jacket and remembers this special birthday trip.
