This wall letter ledge DIY hack is my favorite project of the year thus far! Ok, you are right…it is only January 1st. So yay for a good start! Here is what I love about it: the ledges cost less than $30 total, you do not need any power tools, they can be attached virtually anywhere.
At the end of the October, Joanna Gaines shared this picture of the adorable letter ledge at her home. I became obsessed and begged (read: nagged) my husband to create the same for our house. While my husband is handy and can create awes0me things, his main complaint was that he didn’t have the basic tools needed to make these. Most tutorials on letter ledges asked for a table saw or a drill-press router. We set off to find another way to recreate this look.
We stopped into Ikea to see if anything from there would work. Ikea does not disappoint when it comes to creative ideas. My husband found these Vidga curtain rod rails for $7 each. They are lightweight and the track inside is perfect to hold the flex letters. There are two ways to hang them, we found the side with the shorter groove doesn’t take away from the letters. I love that these are easy to paint and customize to your decor. I debated on painting mine gold and decided to keep mine white for this space.
The only two tools needed were: a leveler and mounting tape. If you do not have mounting tape, this is a great one as it can hold up to 10 pounds.
Measure the area you want to hang your letter ledges and mark off where you want to attach them. We attached four pieces of mounting tape to the back of each rail and once the rail was leveled pushed it onto the wall.
The most expensive part of this letter ledge= the letters! I looked everywhere for the flexible letters. I went with these 8 inch letters. I am kicking myself a little for not going with these 6″ ones instead. If you want to make a big statement (with shorter sayings!) go with the 8 inch letters. If you find more affordable letters please let me know!
I am still working on this room (it is my office), can’t wait to share it with you when it’s completed!!
With love,
Shahla
