There is something about the impending arrival of spring that makes me want to refresh my home decor. I like to make easy home updates that won’t be too cost prohibitive AND will make a big impact. This post has been sponsored by RugsUSA, the opinions expressed are my own.
Declutter & Donate Session
I know, I know…I mention decluttering a lot here! It really is the quickest way to change the vibe of a room. It also changes my mental vibe; clears my head to get rid of the extra “stuff.”
Before I do any changes decor-wise, I grab two empty boxes (or bags) and spend ten to fifteen minutes dividing items into a donate or repurpose pile. This helps me start with a semi-blank canvas to refresh the room.
Make a Move
I love refreshing decor by moving furniture or decorative items to different rooms in the house. That is why I recommend making yourself a repurpose pile during your decluttering process.
We had these chairs in our family room and while I loved them, I did not love the way they looked in that room. I ended up moving the settee that was in our loft down to the dining room and moving these chairs here. It looks and feels so much better.
Change up your Flooring
When we moved in our house we chose dark distressed wood flooring (it was on-trend at the time). I wish I had chosen something little lighter to help brighten the house. While changing the wood flooring was not a project I wanted to take on at the moment, I did want to brighten the rooms with new rugs. I found three rugs that I really liked and not only brightened the rooms, but were also stylish and functional.
I purchased a natural jute runner from RugsUSA for my office earlier last year. We loved the look and how it has held up well in this high traffic area. When I was looking to update the kids’ rooms and loft rugs, I immediately thought of a specific rug I had seen on the RugsUSA website. I was excited to partner with them on this spring home refresh.
Kid’s rooms
We updated my daughter’s room to have more of a bohemian vibe a couple years ago. The old rug she had was darker and did not complement the room well. I came across the hand woven circle rug when I was shopping online and knew it was uniquely perfect! This rug has completed her room perfectly and upped the style factor.
My son’s Star Wars room really needed to be updated from the outdated shag rug he had for the last 5 years. I wanted something that could be transitional and neutral enough for a theme change. This jute geometric trellis rug looks great and adds such beautiful texture to the room. I love the natural color as it brightens the small room and makes it look more spacious. If your child likes to play on the floor, buy a little floor pillow/cushion for him/her to sit on (I recommend this for all natural fiber rugs) .
Home office/loft
Our loft area is where my husband’s at-home office was supposed to be. I say supposed to be because it became a bit of a dumping ground for things that needed to be put away/laundry to be folded and my returns that needed to be sent back. The area was not inviting and needed to be shaken up to create a more productive environment. We moved the chairs up here and added the shaggy moroccan fringe rug. The rug is perfect for so many different styles with its geometric pattern. I love the texture (it is hand woven and 100% wool) and the classic color combination.
Add Some Greenery to Your Home
Finally, adding plants is a great way to add more color and life into your home decor. This is such an easy way to refresh a room. There are so many fun planters on the market to express your own personal style too! My favorite low maintenance plants are snake plants and succulents. The letter ledge pictured below was a DIY you can find here.
