A few weeks ago I hosted an oyster trinket dish craft night, where we decorated oyster shells and made them into cute little trinket dishes using printed napkins and mod podge. It’s such a fun and easy craft- plus a great excuse to bring together a group of friends. Supplies for Creating an Oyster Trinket Dish
Originally when my daughter and I made our oyster trinket dishes, I collected the oyster shells from our lunch at the local farmers market. It was quite a gross production to clean them. And honestly I haven’t felt like having oysters since.
For the party, I ordered oyster shells and scallop shells (I always thought these were clamshells, but I guess not!) from Amazon. While not every single one was perfect, they worked well for the party.
Here’s everything else you need for your oyster trinket dish craft night:
- An assortment of printed napkins. I love stocking up at Homegoods and Marshall’s for these!
- Paintbrushes- I got flat brushes for the mod podge and fine tip brushes for the gold paint
- Mod Podge- I usually buy the glossy version
- Gold paint. This brand makes my favorite gold acrylic paint. It’s much cheaper if you buy at a local craft store, but sometimes I can’t find it and I’m stuck paying the premium online. .
- Shells- oyster or scallops
Setting the Vibe
To keep the DIY theme going I was inspired by a friend to create a diy spritz area with various liqueurs and garnishes. This was a hit! The perfect way to have a fun cocktail or mocktail while creating an oyster trinket dish. The passion fruit liqueur mixed with elderflower soda and the Chandon Garden Spritz sparkling wine was a crowd favorite. I created a cute infographic on how to DIY a spritz and set everything out. I purchased a chinoiserie planter at HomeGoods and used it as a drink bucket. It was perfect for the vibe! Another fave purchase are the cute little ginger jar place settings and these toothpick holders. I also got these adorable seashell-themed toothpicks for our charcuterie platter. These shatterproof fluted wine glasses have been my go-to this spring and summer.
Originally, I had planned on hosting this party outside in our backyard. However, it ended up being the hottest day of the summer (it was still in the triple digits at 7pm!) and I had to pivot and move the party inside. Aside from that, I love how everything came together.
I’d love to see if you throw an oyster trinket dish decorating party! If you do, please tag me!!
With love,
Shahla
