This post has been sponsored by Behr. The opinions expressed are my own. When remodeling my closet, I decided to do something a bit daring for me: paint the wall with a color outside my comfort zone. If you have been following along here for some time you know how much I love black and white. Most of the rooms in our house are styled in a black and white color scheme. My idea of adding color is usually done with natural elements like wood and plants. What can I say, I’m a creature of habit! When the BEHR® 2022 Color of the Year was announced, I knew I had to incorporate the color Breezeway somewhere in my house. Breezeway is a relaxing shade of sea glass green that is sure to uplift and elevate a space.

Accent Wall
I had been wanting to update my closet for quite some time, that before picture is a bit embarrassing! The space is small, but also it was not very functional. While the ceiling is high, the height wasn’t being utilized so I was left with wasted space. We made some updates by purchasing a DIY closet system that made the space more functional for storage and organization, but I still needed something to bring it all together. Once those units were in, I was left with a bland wall that needed some character. Because of the pull-out shelves on the sides, I needed to be mindful of what I placed on the wall (even a small shelf would block the drawers). To give the wall more style, I nailed two-inch thick boards vertically. Quick tip: pay more for the higher quality wood boards, ours were imperfect and tough to get straight. You can space your boards out to your liking, I would recommend making sure you can get a paint brush through the wood gaps.
My little helper loves to DIY with me
Once my boards were nailed onto the wall, I used wood filler to cover the nail holes and then sanded the wood to even them out. When sanding was complete, it was time to paint! I applied BEHR® DYNASTY Interior Paint in Breezeway using a small roller and angled brush. The BEHR DYNASTY line is awesome because it is stain-repellent, scuff-resistant and only requires one coat*. I especially appreciate how fast it dries*, my kids tested that right away! I love how vivid the color is! It completely changed the vibe of my closet.
Add some charm and make it your own
Little details make all the difference. I added a rug and an updated chandelier to the space. I also ordered a bookcase-style ladder (it is on back order as many furniture items seem to be these days). I swapped old bulky black containers I was using to corral my accessories for seagrass baskets that complement the relaxing sea glass-inspired shade on my wall. If you remember from my last post; we made that splatter artwork together as a family. Since it always makes me smile when I see our painting, I thought my closet was the perfect place for it!
