Big Head Sticks: Perfect for Sports or Graduations

shahla · May 13, 2025 · Leave a Comment

These big head sticks are such a hit at any sporting event or graduation! I showed you how to make these ginormous big heads a few years ago. I still make these for my kids from time to time. However, these smaller big head sticks are more cost effective if you are looking to do something special for an entire team without spending as much. I have everything you need to create them listed here.

Supplies Needed for Big Head Sticks

  • 8×10 photos
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Strong glue
  • Paint stir stick
  • Hot glue
  • Poster board

First thing you want to do is take a headshot of each player from the shoulders up, so you have a clear photo when cropping during the print process. I like to keep their hats on for consistency. Then, upload the photos onto whatever you like to use for printing. I use either CVS or Walgreens depending on whichever has a better coupon. Always search for a good coupon code! Once uploaded, I crop each photo so I have the player’s face taking the entire 8×10 photo from chin to the top of the hat.

When you’ve printed and have your photos, start by cutting each head out. I then trace the heads onto poster board and cut those out too. Then glue the poster board onto the head  to give more structure. I used this glue but honestly it smelled more toxic than I would like. I have used Mod Podge in the past. While it isn’t the strongest glue. It is definitely less toxic smelling. I also like to use heavy coffee table books to help the adhering process along.

Once the photos are glued onto poster board, I used hot glue to add the paint stir sticks onto the back. Now we are ready for our Little League playoffs!

Let me know if you make these! I would love to see them!
