Resharing this baseball themed Father’s Day gift idea that I shared a few years ago. This DIY decorative home plate is the perfect thank you gift for a coach to celebrate the end of baseball or softball season (I have made about 8 of them thus far for that!). It would also make for a special Father’s Day gift for a dad or grandfather. It has a vintage feel that gives off an air of nostalgia and is beautiful to display in an office or shelf all year. I used my Cricut to create the details of this decorative home plate. Everything else I’ve linked for you in this post to create your own.

Supplies for Baseball Themed Father’s Day Gift
- Wooden home plate (mine is 10 inches tall and 0.5 inches thick). I don’t think it needs to be this thick! If I were to do this again, I would divide the thickness in half. Here is the direct site too.
- Permanent Vinyl
- This DecoArt Americana Gel Stain in Walnut (you can use any stain but I like this one because it does not smell at all!).
- Foam brushes
- Adhesive photo pouches
Instructions
When I received my wooden home plate there was a protective paper adhesive on one side that I needed to remove. Once removed, I wet the foam brush and lightly brushed a layer of stain in the direction of the wood grain. I removed any excess/runny stain with a clean brush and allowed it to dry. This process was repeated until I achieved the desired stain color (only twice total). I added the plate detail using permanent vinyl and my Cricut. Then, I added the adhesive photo pouch on the back. The kids on the team all signed their names on the back of the plate making for a memorable keepsake. To make a baseball themed Father’s Day gift I would do the same and have the kids write something meaningful on the back for their dad. Adding a picture on the back is totally optional.
Tag me if you create this, I would love to see it!
With love,
Shahla
